- Track 2 recorded at The Power Station, April or May 1982.
- Track 10 recorded at The Hit Factory, April 1982.
- Track 5 recorded at The Hit Factory, May 11, 1982.
- Track 8 recorded at The Hit Factory, May 14, 1982.
- Track 6 recorded at The Hit Factory, May 5, 1982.
- Track 9 recorded at The Power Station, November 9th 1983.
- Track 13 recorded at Thrill Hill West, LA, CA, January 30, 1983.
- Track 14 recorded at Thrill Hill West, LA, CA, January 4, 1983.
- Tracks 7,12,15,16 recorded at Thrill Hill West, mid Jan to mid Feb 1983.

Source details:
- Tracks 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10,11 from 'This Hard Land', BS2002
- Tracks 9,12 from 'Lost Masters XIX', LOVE 019
- Tracks 7,17 from 'Lost Masters XVII', LOVE 017
- Tracks 14,15,16 from 'Lost Masters XVI', LOVE 016

Track descriptions:
01 Contains a different Springsteen vocal overdub and a very long, extended jam ending.
02 This track has the original Van Zandt background vocals.
03 Slighly different version / mix.
04 Unedited, contains an entire extra verse (about Bruce’s dad) that was cut from the officially released version.
05 One of his finest studio performances. For some bizarre reason Springsteen & The E Street Band re-recorded the
song in 1995 and released that re-recording on 'Greatest Hits' – but it pales in comparison to this original.
06 Different mix than on the one released on 'Tracks'.
07 Bruce borrowed the first two lines from Chuck Berry’s song “Bye Bye Johnny” (as well as the play on the title),
which is why it’s registered as a Springsteen-Berry composition.
08 Originally recorded for "Darkness", and recorded again here, this was considered for the 'Greatest Hits' collection but was finally dropped.
09 Full, unedited version that includes lyric changes and the complete raucous ending. This track runs nearly a full 1:30 longer than the released version.
10 Slighly different version / mix.
11 A bit longer version.
12 Beautiful keyboards by Danny and Roy augment some fine acoustic guitar playing by Bruce.
13 Presented in best-ever quality, this unreleased gem far eclipses any current circulated versions.
14 Unreleased studio outtake.
15 Wonderful tune with a killer chorus - note the bass line similar to the Human Touch B-side '30 Days Out'
16 Short but energetic rocker.

* 'Thrill Hill West' is Springsteen’s home studio in Los Angeles (aka 'Hollywood Hills Garage Studio').
* Most band tracks are E Street Band backing versions from so-called “electric Nebraska session”

Disc Two (2) details:

Recording details:
- Track 1 recorded at The Hit Factory, from the April-June 1983 sessions.
- Track 3 PROBABLY recorded at The Hit Factory during Jan or early Feb 1982. May be from later.
- Track 2 recorded at The Power Station, April or May 1982.
- Track 4 recorded at The Hit Factory, June 16, 1983
- Track 5 recorded at The Hit Factory, May 5, 1982.
- Track 6 recorded at The Hit Factory, April 20, 1983.
- Track 7 recorded at The Power Station during April or May 1982.
- Track 8 recorded at The Hit Factory, Feb 1982.
- Track 9 recorded at The Hit Factory, June 13, 1983.
- Track 10 recorded at The Hit Factory, April or May 1983.
- Tracks 11,13 recorded at Thrill Hill West, August 1982 through April 1983.
- Tracks 12,14,16 recorded at Thrill Hill West, January through May 1983.
- Track 15 recorded at Thrill Hill West, January 4, 1983.

Source details:
- Tracks 1,2,3,4,5,6 from 'Murder Incorporated', FR03
- Track 7 from 'This Hard Land', BS2002
- Tracks 9,10 from 'Lost Masters XIX', LOVE 019
- Tracks 14,16, from 'Lost Masters XVII', LOVE 017
- Track 12 from 'Lost Masters XVIII', LOVE 018
- Tracks 15,11,13 from 'Lost Masters XVI', LOVE 016
- Track 8 from 'Lost Masters IV', LOVE 004

Track descriptions:
01 The original mix without the new (90's) vocal track or the overdubbed second guitar on 'The Essential BS'. One of my favourite tracks, too bad the sound quality is what it is.
02 Different mix permutation of the same core recording as #1.
03 Completely different recording than the released 'Cover Me' done in a dramatically different arrangement.
This may actually date from a later period in the sessions than the original 'Cover Me'.
04 Same core recording as on 'Tracks', but has a much longer fade out (very nice) and features Steve Van Zandt on background vocals and guitar.
05 Different mix permutation of the same core recording as #1.
06 Different mix than on the one released on 'Tracks'.
07 Includes slightly different lyrics and an alternate beginning and ending.
08 This song was given to Donna Summer, who was recording an album at the time at the same studio.
Summer’s cover version (with Springsteen on guitar) was recorded in March 1982 (released Aug 82).
Bruce and Donna also recorded a duet vocal version at her sessions – it remains uncirculating.
09 Original mix with the saxophone track (deleted on 'Tracks').
10 Features Ruth Jackson on background vocals. Possibly recorded at the same session as 'My Hometown' (which also features Jackson).
11 By far the definitive version of this song – contains an additional, important lyric verse that has been cut from all the other versions.
12 Brilliant song that developed from a 1981-82 work-in-progress composition called 'James Lincoln Dear'
13 Unreleased studio outtake.
14 Unreleased studio outtake.
15 Compelling song. Features a dark, brooding beat that mirrors the disturbing nature of the lyrics. A nice vocal performance here and we're left wondering what possessed him to write this one.
16 Add this to the ever expanding list of Bruce's greatest unreleased songs. A man surveys his life and wonders if he can ever escape the demons of his past.

* 'Thrill Hill West' is Springsteen’s home studio in Los Angeles (aka 'Hollywood Hills Garage Studio').
* Most band tracks are E Street Band backing versions from so-called “electric Nebraska session”

======================================

By July 1983 Springsteen was in the final stages of mixing and track selection for the album. There was talk of a pre-Christmas release.
There was certainly no shortage of outstanding material to pick from. A document exists from mid 1983 revealing Springsteen’s selection for the BITUSA album,
as well his selections for b-sides. It was as follows:

BORN IN THE USA
MURDER INCORPORATED
DOWNBOUND TRAIN
GLORY DAYS
THIS HARD LAND
MY LOVE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN
JOHNNY BYE BYE
FRANKIE
I’M GOIN DOWN
WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY
I’M ON FIRE
b-side / SUGARLAND
b-side / FOLLOW THAT DREAM
b-side / DON’T BACK DOWN
b-side / ONE LOVE
b-side / LITTLE GIRL LIKE YOU

RE-UP: Springsteen "The Ultimate Born To Run Remastered Outtakes Collection" - 2CD

Bruce Springsteen
The Ultimate Born To Run Remastered Outtakes Collection
Studio Born to Run Sessions
Recorded at the Record Plant and 914 Sound Studio in NYC - March thru July 1975

Remastered by The Godfatherrecords
New compilation by Fanatic Records
Disc 2 track 6, "Backstreets Alternate Take #1" pitch correction remastered by Fanatic Records.
Considering the nature if this recording, Backstreets Alternate Take #1 was not recorded in
the correct pitch. The music and vocals sounds sped up. If you compare the corrected version
presented here with all other circulating versions you can hear the difference. I used the superb
remastered"Running Out of Innocence" by The Godfatherecords as the source for this project.

The thought behind this project was to use strickly Born To Run Outtakes with the best possible
sound and to slate them in a uniform order that would give the fan a fresh listening perspective.
Disc One has 8 tracks somewhat resembling the Official release, with "Lonely Night in the Park"
in place of "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out." Disc Two has an assortment of different mixes along with
the outtakes that never made it to the official release. To go along with these sessions, new
artwork was created based on the original Born To Run design, using photos by the amazing Eric Meola.

RE-UP: Springsteen "The Ties That Bind" - 1CD - unreleased 1979 album

The Ties That Bind (as published in Backstreets #47, Fall 1994)
In the Fall of 1979, Bruce Springsteen finished a series of songs that would comprise The Ties That Bind, his fifth album. CBS Records hoped for a Christmas release, or early 19820 at the latest, but Springtsteen scrapped the project entirely after the songs were chosen and the album even sequenced. Hearing that lost album was only wishful thinking for Springsteen fans. Until now.
Original master tapes from the Power Station, location of recording sessions for The Ties That Bind and its ultimate successor, The River, serve as the source for this release. As a result, the sound quality is superb, rivaling and often surpassing even the Japanese version of The River on CD (which sounds slightly warmer than its American counterpart).

The Chief difference in sound is a greater ambiance. Listeners will note a warmer, more intimate sound on common songs like "Hungry Heart" (which is identical to the officially released version) and on slightly different versions of familar songs like "The Ties That Bind" and "The River". Perhaps the best example is "The Price You Pay", which Power Station notes indicate is the first take. Greater separation between the acoustic guitar (left channel) and electric guitar (right channel) and improved sound on Max Weinberg's snare and cymbals, not to mention the alternate third verse, make for a new aural experience. Furthermore, the E Street Band flat-out nailed this song on the first take.

While fans will enjoy the alternate takes of songs that made it to The River, the flawless sound of the still-unreleased gem "Cindy" will cause jaws to drop. Sound on previously circulated tapes, records, and CD's has ranged from fair to very good, but The Ties That Bind will render those versions vastly inferior. The material is bright, distinct in both channels, pitched correctly, and without any of the evident flaws of the past.

In addition to the quantum leap in sound, there are also considerable thematic differences that distinguish The Ties That Bind from The River. From the original version of "Stolen Car" (in its "Son, You May Kiss The Bride" arrangement) to the sequencing of the rockabilly "You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)" immediately after "The River" (which opens the second side- contrast that with its place as the final song on the first disc of The River. Yet Springsteen told Marsh that after the excitement of the MUSE shows in September 1979, the album "seemed inadequate." Fifteen years after Springsteen shelved The Ties That Bind, there is little to suggest inadequancy. And, for once, fans have as much proof as they need.

1. The Ties That Bind (3:37)
2. Cindy (2:28)
3. Hungry Heart (3:28)
4. Stolen Car (4:33)
5. To Be True (3:54) - aka "Be True"
6. The River (4:54)
7. You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) (2:12)
8. The Price You Pay (5:51)
9. I Wanna Marry You (3:31)
10. Loose Ends (4:08)

===========

Outtakes and alternate takes from the Born in the USA sessions were talked about and even started to circulate almost as soon as the album was released in June 1984. In press reports and interviews at the time, mentions were made of intriguing cuts like the original "long version" of the title track, which lasted nearly nine minutes, and "Glory Days," featuring an extra verse cut from the released version that referenced the "Metuchen Ford plant assembly line."

But the copies of this material which initially passed into collectors' hands were of mediocre quality. Those were the days of cassette dubs (or, God-forbid, high-speed cassette dubs) which sucked precious fidelity from the source material with each subsequent copy. Given questionable sources to begin with and copies circulating many generations down from the master, the first Born in the USA outtakes we got to hear were pretty rough.

Several different traunches of BIUSA material eventually leaked on cassette, but the one represented here came to be viewed as something special. For one, it appeared to capture a specific and complete album sequence, and given what we now know about the sessions, the 11 songs found here reflect recordings from the earliest phase of the multi-year affair, all cut in 1982. And like The Ties That Bind before it, this appeared to be a "lost album" of sorts (dubbed Murder Incorporated by some), the early edition of what would eventually become the Born in the U.S.A. we all know, albeit with some changes to the line up.

As I have written before, how close these eleven songs came to official release is unconfirmed, but one would speculate it never came as close as Ties did. This particular tune stack was more of a speculative sequence that Bruce's inner circle may have been test driving, so to speak, after Nebraska was released in 1982. A hand-written sequence with "Johnny Bye Bye" (cut in 1983) subbing for "Darlington County" is currently on view at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and may have been more closely considered than this earlier incarnation. Perhaps its best to see this as the first suggestion of what album number seven would be but not the last.

Jump ahead to the early '90s, when the CD bootleg was born, but the BIUSA outtakes still hadn't fared so well, sounding only marginally better (on titles like the first edition of Murder Incorporated; The Lost Masterpiece from Flamingo Records) than the cassettes and vinyl bootlegs had. Of course, this is before the arrival of The Lost Masters series (not to mention the official release of "Murder Incorporated" itself on Greatest Hits and, in late 1998, the official outs-n-alts bonanza, Tracks).

What changed fans' collective sonic fortunes was a CD boot called This Hard Land, which presented the same material found here in best-ever sound quality for the time. While not perfect, THL was a sonic leap ahead of any previous bootleg or widely circulating cassette of the material.

The aforementioned releases have since usurped some of its tracks in quality, but to this day it remains the definitive source for the long "Born in the U.S.A.," as well as the longest known takes/mixes of "My Love Will Not Let You Down," "Glory Days," "Downbound Train" and "Frankie." And there are minor differences from any other source on other tracks, too. Even more importantly, this collection represents what was--even if only for a moment--an album in someone's mind in and around Thrill Hill. And unlike any assemblage of these same outs and alts from other sources, because it is from a single source tape, the sound--again, not perfect--is consistent across every track.

So where did the original cassette come from? A well-connected LA collector with connections into Columbia Records had it, and his own copy was borrowed and transferred to DAT way back in 1993.

This release represents the first time a properly transferred copy of the original source tape for the bootleg has circulated. While the This Hard Land boot was an upgrade of the material, its journey from the original cassette to that CD was a corrupted one.

EV2 has taken a new transfer of the clean, original source and done his own work to make it even better. It has never sounded this good. And given how many of you probably owned a copy of this bootleg at some point, hearing the same source, songs and order of the original in upgraded quality should be a treat. We hope you enjoy it.

===========

Born In The USA:
Long, unedited take nearly identical in its body to the album version, but with a long instrumental outro, punctuated by Springsteen's vocal responses.

Murder Incorporated:
This angry, bleak track is an impassioned piece of work about the collapse of American cities.

My Love Will Not Let You Down:
A driving love song, unlike any in the Springsteen cannon.

Glory Days:
Essentially identical to the released track with one additional verse, concerning a worker at the Ford automobile assembly line in Metuchen, NJ.

Working On The Highway:
Very similar to the released version, with a count-in and one slight lyrical change.

I'm Goin' Down:
Early track lists call it simply "Down, Down, Down". This version includes the full introduction and longer ending, and there's no saxophone dub.

This Hard Land:
Would've served as a perfect bridge between Nebraska and BITUSA.

Frankie:
Written and performed live in 1976, "Frankie" was also recorded for Darkness On The Edge Of Town, before turning up again in 1982.

I'm On Fire:
The long intro of this version was trimmed by 30 seconds for release.

Downbound Train:
This version includes the full introduction and Springsteen's vocal howls during the song's middle section and also a lot more of acoustic guitar.

Darlington County:
A slightly longer ending, and one minor lyrical change distinguish this version from it's released counterpart.

These 24 tracks are something I compiled from various bootlegs
to get all the worthwhile
outtakes and alternate versions collected in one place.
There are actually two more varieties of
"Backstreets" on the "War & Roses" compilation,
but from what I can hear they are the same as the ones found here
except that they lack the guitar overdubs (and have lesser sound quality)
so I didn't bother with them. Otherwise these are all the different
Born To Run outttakes & alternates I have found out there...

RE-UP: Springsteen "Lost Masters volume 17 - Hollywood Hills Garage Tapes 2" - 1CD - 1983 outtakes

Bruce Springsteen
Lost Masters Volume 17
Hollywood Hills Garage Tapes - Unreleased Masters
Volume 2
Songs 1-9: Bruce Springsteen, Solo Outtakes, Eight Track Mixes, Hollywood Hills Garage Studio, Los Angeles, California, January 30th, 1983.

1. Follow That Dream False start
2. Follow That Dream #1
Presented in best-ever quality, this unreleased gem far eclipses any current circulated versions.
After a false start, this track features a tender, moving vocal by Bruce.

3. Your Hometown #1
4. Your Hometown #2
5. Your Hometown #3
6. Your Hometown #4
Rockabilly versions of "My Hometown." Bruce's fascination with rockabilly during the period preceding
"Born in the USA" is evidenced here in the original incarnation of "My Hometown,"
which was initially dubbed "Your Hometown." This uptempo, kickin' version features some classic guitar
from Bruce and sounds like it would be another track ideally suited for Dave Edmunds.
The four takes presented here are very similar, with the exception of take
#2, which features several lyric changes.

7. Follow That Dream #2
Another alternate take with subtle vocal variations to #1 above.

8. Sugarland False start
9. Sugarland #1 Rockabilly version
Another in a long line of classic, unreleased songs, Bruce debuted this on tour in 1984 at Ames, Iowa.
Recorded over a year and a half earlier, this original rock version is highlighted by a very energetic
and commanding vocal performance. And boy does it rock! Totally different to the circulated version.

Songs 10-16: Bruce Springsteen, Solo Outtakes, Holly wood Hills Garage Studio, Los Angeles, California,
January thru May 1983.

10. Little Girl #2
This pleasant little rockabilly "throwaway" number fits in nicely with the other sub two minute
Bruce numbers: "Held Up" and "Johnny Bye Bye."

11. County Fair #1
Just as "Wild Billy's Circus Story" perfectly captured the sights, sounds and smells of the circus,
this beautiful unreleased song does the same for a small town county fair.
Very few artists can transport a listener to a specific place the way Bruce does,
and here he puts you right in the middle of all the goings-on, from beginning to end.
This one's a stunner.

12. Bye Bye Johnny #4
A dramatically different version than the short, rockabilly one on the b-side of "I'm on Fire."
This longer version perfectly captures the mournful mood of the song and features some fine acoustic guitar
and synthesizer work.

13. Bye Bye Johnny #5
Without question, the definitive version of this song. Features a different intro and an additional closing verse.
A very emotional and moving vocal performance by Bruce, this take will bring tears to your eyes.
Mournful yet elegant, somber yet majestic, Bruce outdoes himself on this take.
Rest in peace: Elvis and John.

14. Delivery Man #1
Another short yet enjoyable rockabilly number with some fine picking by Bruce,
this very humorous tale of a truck driver losing his chickens would have made a great b-side.

15. Delivery Man #2
Alternate acoustic take to above with a different intro, some lyric changes and a different,
expanded outro.

16. Unsatisfied Heart
Add this to the ever expanding list of Bruce's greatest unreleased songs.
A man surveys his life and wonders if he can ever escape the demons of his past.
Classic lyrics, classic performance.

13. Untitled
14. Bring On the Night

This edition of the Lost Masters brings you two sets of home demos circa 1979, via Los Angeles and Holmdel, NJ. The quality, as per the other solo volumes in our set, is astounding. There are some true gems included here and several examples of Bruce at his melodic and rhythmic best. Despite the rough and unfinished nature of this music, it is hard to deny the beautiful melody of songs like "Walking on the Avenue" and "Find It Where You Can" or the funky rhythms of "Baby Come Back" and "Bring on the Night". Both "Find It Where You Can" and "Bring on the Night" can be found in full band rehearsal versions on previous Lost Masters volumes. It is interesting to see the songs develop from skeleton demos to fully realized electric versions. Similarly, it is interesting to see how a song like "Take Em As They Come" evolved from its beginnings here to the circulating E Street Band outtake we know so well. Also evident among these tracks is how Bruce utilizes similar harmonies on different songs - listen to how the harmonies from "Love Is A Gun" #2 & "Love and Kisses" are employed on "out on the Run (Looking For Love)". Fully realized unreleased demos, pretty harmonies, intriguing lyrics, heartrending vocals and some fine acoustic guitar playing - it's all here on the latest solo offering from the Lost Masters series.

RE-UP: Springsteen "Lost Masters volume 6 - Travel In Fear" - 1CD - 1979-1980

Bruce Springsteen
Lost Masters Volume  06
Travel in Fear - Unreleased River Masters Volume 2

1. Hungry Heart #1 Alternate mix
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, June 21, 1979. Alternate mix with extended ending. What is noticed immediately is that this take has a count-in and no vocal histrionics by Bruce during the intro prior to his singing the first verse. Piano seems to be a little more prominent in the mix, the lead vocal less so, and there are no "la la las" during the chorus. Extended outro has this take clocking in at around 22 seconds longer than the released version (3:19).

2. Hungry Heart #2 Alternate mix
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, June 21, 1979. Another alternate mix with different count-in than #1. Similar to #1 with distinct vocal variations, this take also features an extended outro.

3. The Price You Pay Alternate take with 12-String guitar and accordion
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, June 21, 1979. A classic E Street Band performance of one of Bruce's great "lesser known" songs, this alternate take features a totally different mix to the released version. A count-in and a different intro start things off on this more uptempo version, with keyboards and accordion figuring more prominently in the mix and a significantly different guitar sound. Most evident are the many lyrics differences and the additional verses to the released version, in addition to the much different ending. This take is different to the one featured on the previously released CD "The Ties That Bind" and clocks in at 5:43 vice 5:27 on the released version.

4. I Wanna Be With You
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, June 21, 1979. A well known "Darkness" outtake, this take of a classic Bruce "power pop" song is different to the previously circulated version, as this is actually from the sessions for "The River." Bruce's vocal has more muscle and the lyrics differ considerably to the "Darkness" outtake. Max and Clarence REALLY strut their stuff on this unreleased gem.

6. Stolen Car #1
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, June 21, 1979. Yet another completely different take of "Stolen Car," this take features a new mix, different lyrics and three more verses than the released version. Almost a minute longer and a totally different take than the one found on the CD "The Ties That Bind" (4:28), this cut times out at 4:48.

7. Angelyne #1 Acoustic demo
Bruce Springsteen, Home Demo, Holmdel, New Jersey circa 1979. Bruce's solo acoustic working demos of a tune that would eventually evolve into "The River." This interesting look at song construction features Bruce working out parts of the song with his guitar and his voice simulating a guitar, singing several recognizable verses, and several attempts at the chorus sung in both a high and a low voice. Perhaps some of you technical wizards out there can edit the various pieces into one complete track. From any perspective, a fascinating look at the birth of a classic.

8. The Ties That Bind New mix, take #8
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, circa 1979/1980. This alternate take features a slightly different Bruce lead vocal, is sung in a different key and it is an entirely different mix.

9. Hungry Heart #3 Different harmonies
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, circa 1979/1980. Very similar to the released version but with slightly different harmonies and an extended ending.

10. Stolen Car #2 Alternate lyrics
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, circa 1979/1980. Another alternate take of "Stolen Car" similar to the one on "The Ties That Bind" but considerably shorter.

11. To Be True
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Power Station Studios, New York City, circa 1979/1980. Original version with double tracked lead vocal and a very enjoyable extended harmony ending.

12. Angelyne #2 Acoustic demo
Bruce Springsteen, Home Demo, Holmdel, New Jersey circa 1979. Working out lyrics and harmonies. See notes of track 6.

13. Angelyne #3 Acoustic demo
Bruce Springsteen, Home Demo, Holmdel, New Jersey circa 1979. Working out lyrics and guitar riffs. See notes of track 6.

14. Angelyne #4 Acoustic demo
Bruce Springsteen, Home Demo, Holmdel, New Jersey circa 1979. Working out lyrics that would evolve into the song "The River." See notes of track 6.

RE-UP: Springsteen "Lost Masters volume 5 - Heaven's Dawn" - 1CD - 1979-1980

Bruce Springsteen
Lost Masters Volume  05
Heaven's Dawn - Unreleased River Masters Volume 1

Songs 1-2: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Power Station Studios, New York City 1979/1980.

1. (She's A) Rocker #1 Take #4
Early version of song "I'm a Rocker" with different lyrics
Completely different take to released version with lyrical changes. This take, minus the count-in, times out at 3:20, 0:14 less than released version.

2. (She's A) Rocker #2 Take #6 with different vocal, mixed up front
Another completely different take to #4 above with Bruce's vocal way up in the mix.

Songs 3-14: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Power Station Studios, New York City, July 20th, 1979.

3. Rickie (Wants A Man Of Her Own) Alternate take with more organ and different lyrics
A different take than the previously circulating version. What distinguishes this track is Roy's organ way up in the mix.

4. Cindy #1 Alternate take with double track vocals
5. Cindy #2 Alternate take with Clarence's harmony vocals
Yet another take of this tuneful, teenybopper love song (and we say that in a positive way), this version is highlighted by an unlikely Clarence harmony vocal.

6. Ramrod #1
7. Ramrod #2
8. Ramrod #3 This take has some different lyrics in the second verse
9. Ramrod #4 Work outs with extra sax overdubs and instrumental end
Four different takes of what some Springsteen enthusiasts call one of Bruce's most misunderstood tunes, some fans citing this as one of Bruce's saddest songs. The four takes included here differ greatly to the released version and include studio chatter and Clarence working out his sax parts. A primo take is #4, where Steve's harmony vocal is way up in the mix and long outro.

10. I Wanna Marry You #1 Alternate take with new vocal, spoken Intro, and no sax or backing vocals at the end
A beautiful alternate version with a rougher new vocal by Bruce, spoken intro and no sax or harmonies at the end.

11. I Wanna Marry You #2 Take #16
With more background vocals added
Another altemate version with brighter harmony vocals added to the mix.

12. I Wanna Marry You #3 Take #22
Without background vocals or sax solo at the end
Bruce starts singing late on this take A different vocal take by Bruce, this version is longer and contains no background vocals or sax at the end. You can hear Bruce talk in between this take and the next: "I'm gonna run to the hotel and get my bag."

13. I Wanna Marry You #4 Take #24
Overdub #2 Different vocals and no sax solo or background vocals at the end
Now the mix really changes, with the keyboards more prominent and a new Bruce vocal with some slight lyric changes.

14. I Wanna Marry You #5 Take #12
Overdub #4 Different vocals, more organ but no sax solo or background vocals at the end
Another drastically different take with Danny's organ way up in the mix, keyboards more prominent overall, lyric differences and no sax solo/harmony vocals at the end.

Song 15: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Soundcheck at Brendan Byrne Arena, Meadowlands Sports Complex, East Rutherford, NJ, July 8th, 1981.

15. All I Need
Bruce probably wrote the song the same day (you can hear his home demo on The Lost Masters VII) and quickly rehearsed it with the band the same day at the afternoon soundcheck before one of his 6 sold-out shows at the Meadowlands Arena, where Gary US Bonds was a guest. Gary would eventually release the song one year later in his album "On The Line," his second album produced by Bruce Springsteen and Miami Steve.

RE-UP: Springsteen "Lost Masters volume 4 - Big Expandables" - 1CD - 1979

Bruce Springsteen
Lost Masters Volume  04
Big Expendables - Songs That Got Away

1. Roulette acoustic demo
Bruce Springsteen, Home Demo. Holmdel, New Jersey circa 1979. This is Bruce at home actually creating the song. Fascinating.

2. Roulette original version
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Power Station Studios, New York City, April 3, 1979. Completely different version to the one finally released in 1988, including vastly different lyrics and an alternate mix. This original version features prominent keyboards by Mr. Bittan and a much more "accusatory" vocal by the Boss. Hard to imagine someone thinking they could improve upon this. They didn't.
